Inspiring Girls Expeditions: Girls on Ice Alaska Program is looking for volunteers to help carry gear to and from base camp for our program on Gulkana Glacier on June 17 and June 24 (you can come for one or both dates). Please email email@example.com if you're interested in signing up or want to learn more!
Girls on Ice Alaska is a unique, FREE, wilderness science education program for high school girls. Each year a team of nine teenage girls and four instructors spend 12 days exploring and learning about mountain glaciers and alpine landscapes through scientific field studies with professional glaciologists, artists and mountaineers. This is a great opportunity to support this program, and inspire young women in the outdoors while also being inspired yourself!
As a volunteer, you'll spend the day hiking in and out of base camp with us on one of the most beautiful trails in interior Alaska. This volunteer opportunity is for women age 20 and over who feel competent hiking over steep, rugged terrain with a weighted backpack.
All volunteers are asked to attend our volunteer orientation on Wednesday, June 13 at 5:30 p.m. at UAF. You will need to provide a large backpack (greater than 50 liters) and all personal gear and food necessary for a long day hike in the backcountry.
If you are interested in this opportunity, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org with the following information:
- Have you volunteered with Girls on Ice Alaska before?
- Have you hiked to the terminus of Gulkana Glacier before?
- Which date(s) are you interested in volunteering?
- Are you a UAF employee?
- Do you have a car you are willing to drive? Will you need a ride to the trailhead?
