“I decided to go to college in Juneau and it was the first time I had ever been away from my family. It was probably the hardest two years of my life, but I learned that I could be independent and that I could take care of myself. So it was a good moment of self-discovery. When I came home from Juneau, after my parents and brother spent all summer moving to Fairbanks, I was so relieved to be home and so happy to see them. It was such a relief — my brightest memory.”
